Diamond Crest Residence

Las Vegas / Nevada / USA

Rooted in its desert context, the Diamond Crest Residence is a study in rhythm, materiality, and light. Inspired by the morning glow of the sandstone ridges to the west and the homeowner’s passion for music, the design unfolds as a series of masonry volumes, their solidity balanced by refined planar elements that engage with the shifting desert light.

At the entrance, a stone-clad, jewel-like music room anchors the composition, its geometry and acoustics tailored for an extensive record collection. A monumental pivoting door—composed of copper, textured glass, and hot-rolled steel—sets the tone for the interiors, where a hidden door discreetly integrates into the masonry wall, reinforcing the home’s seamless detailing.

As a builder it is rare to find an architect who has an intimate knowledge of the construction process and the ability to seamlessly orchestrate the team dynamic between the owner, architect, builder. Brent Kendle is such a conductor. He is sensitive to how his design and detailing actually come together in the field and not merely how it looks on paper.

The great room extends outward, its floating ceiling and clerestory windows amplifying natural light. A panelized fireplace conceals the television, its shifting planes echoing the home’s architectural language, while a floor-to-ceiling pocketing glass wall dissolves boundaries between interior and exterior. A cantilevered trellis provides shade and frames views of the fairway, mountains, and sky.

The kitchen, a bespoke Eggersmann composition, juxtaposes book-matched stone with walnut cabinetry, concealing a butler’s pantry and a discreet workstation oriented toward a framed garden view.

A subtle yet profound intervention takes the form of an almost imperceptible line of glass, strategically positioned beneath deep overhangs. This design choice blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, inviting occupants to engage intimately with the natural surroundings. The expansive views – from the immediate allure of the desert flora to the captivating city lights in the distant valley – become integral components of the living experience. Moreover, planar roof forms, artfully contoured, play a functional role in capturing and redistributing rainwater to sustain adjacent vegetation.

In the backyard, the home’s architectural rhythm extends into the landscape. A raised pool with a chiseled basalt edge anchors the outdoor experience, while layered hardscape and planting create moments of movement and stillness. The trellis overhead casts shifting patterns of light and shadow, subtly choreographing the passage of time.

The Diamond Crest Residence is a carefully orchestrated composition, where architecture, landscape, and the essence of music converge in harmony.

Rammed Earth walls, constructed from soil excavated on-site, gracefully ascend from the desert floor, echoing the countours of the surrounding mountain range. The outcome is a residence that harmoniously integrates with its environment, eloquently expressing its distinctive sense of place in the world.
