The Nauni Valley Library and Reading Pavilion
Paradise Valley / Arizona / USA

As one follows the winding nature trail from the main house, a secluded oasis is revealed, seamlessly integrated into the desert landscape. The boulder pathway descends to a recessed terrace, offering a tranquil retreat with intimate views of the surrounding nature, ideal for contemplation and solitude. The structure is embedded within the desert, rather than placed upon it, fostering a harmonious connection with its environment.
Inside, the primary space features custom-designed bookcases that showcase the owner’s collection of written works. A perforated cast-in-place concrete shell floats above the desert floor, creating a serene reading nook where sunlight creates shifting patterns throughout the day. The structural glass countertop filters soft light into the room, enhancing the experience of desert living while providing a perfect setting for scholarship. Additionally, a full bathroom and concealed kitchenette offer versatility, allowing the space to function as a guest casita when needed.
